Ramkund now has its flag masts. Two Dharmadhwajas (religious flag masts), 51 ft and 31 ft tall, have been installed for the Simhastha flag hoisting at 12:02 PM on Saturday 31 October 2026, the Free Press Journal reported on 18 October 2026. The installation details are a media report. NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri's statement on the remaining works is on record (Times of India, 18 October).
The two masts (as reported by FPJ)
- A brass Garuda is mounted on the main, 51-ft mast, and a brass Makara (crocodile), regarded as the vahana of the Ganga and Godavari, on the second mast.
- The masts carry brass plating meant to withstand rain and wind during the Kumbh and in the years after it. In sunlight the 51-ft mast looks golden.
- A Kamala Peetha (lotus-shaped pedestal) has been built at the base, and a Mangal Kalash sits at the top.
- Installation was done with a 50-ft crane and went on through Friday 16 October.
- FPJ also reports that huts and encroachments around the Ramkund area have been cleared.
Planned since January
The heights were decided at an NTKMA meeting chaired by commissioner Shekhar Singh on 31 January 2026, Loksatta reported at the time. That meeting fixed flagstaffs of 51 ft and 31 ft with the same design for Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, with symbolic carving linked to the Samudra Manthan. It was agreed that the purohit sanghs of Nashik and Trimbak would design the flags themselves. In Trimbak, the flagstaff puja at Kushavarta took place on 15 October; see our report.
Ramkund works: five more days
"A majority of works at Ramkund and Godaghat are complete, and the remaining work will conclude within the next five days," Khatri told a joint press meet with NTKMA on 18 October, according to the Times of India. Once complete, she said, Ramkund will get a facelift from the infrastructure work done there. NTKMA had first set a mid-October deadline for the Ramkund facelift, and in early October it wrote to NMC that the works were running behind (Times of India, 5 October); see that report.
