Rs 8,000-Crore Ring Road Project Cleared for Nashik Kumbh

A 91-kilometer ring road project worth Rs 8,000 crore has been cleared for Nashik, along with Rs 2,270 crore for upgrading 289 km of roads connecting pilgrimage sites.

The Maharashtra government has cleared the ambitious Rs 8,000-crore ring road project that will encircle Nashik city across a span of 91 kilometers, fundamentally transforming the city's connectivity and traffic management ahead of the Kumbh Mela 2027. This six-lane expressway will serve as the primary artery for diverting heavy traffic away from the congested city center, ensuring smooth movement of pilgrims to key Kumbh sites including Ramkund, Tapovan, and Trimbakeshwar.

In addition to the ring road, the government has sanctioned Rs 2,270 crore for the upgrade and widening of 289 kilometers of roads that connect major pilgrimage routes. These roads link critical corridors such as Nashik-Trimbakeshwar, Nashik-Shirdi, and Nashik-Panchavati, which will see the heaviest pilgrim traffic during the festival. The upgrades include four-laning, new bridges, better drainage systems, and dedicated pedestrian pathways.

Traffic management experts have been consulted extensively to design a comprehensive circulation plan. During peak Shahi Snan days, one-way traffic systems, dedicated bus lanes, and park-and-ride facilities will be implemented. Multiple satellite parking zones on the ring road will allow pilgrims to park their vehicles and take shuttle buses to the ghats, reducing congestion in the inner city by an estimated 60 percent.

The ring road is also expected to leave a lasting legacy for Nashik beyond the Kumbh. It will open up new areas for residential and commercial development, reduce average commute times by 40 percent, and position Nashik as a well-connected urban hub in northern Maharashtra. Land acquisition for the project is already 70 percent complete, and construction is progressing on a war footing to meet the October 2026 deadline.
