The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) general body has approved hiring 1,638 temporary medical and support staff for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, at a cost of ₹20.24 crore. The Times of India reported this on 15 October 2026. The staff will be on contract for three to four months: 1,054 for three months and 584 for four months.
Who will be hired
- 127 specialist medical officers
- 141 MBBS doctors
- 201 BAMS doctors
- 233 staff nurses
- 165 auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs)
- 198 pharmacists
- 573 support staff
They will work at NMC hospitals and at the temporary hospitals, health centres and ICUs planned for the Kumbh, including at the ghats. The aim, an NMC health official told TOI, is emergency response and disease surveillance as lakhs of sadhus and pilgrims arrive.
Separate ₹40.20 crore for emergency care
The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has also approved a separate NMC proposal worth ₹40.20 crore for advanced emergency medical services during the mela, TOI reported. Details of what that money buys have not been published yet.
What it means for pilgrims
More doctors and nurses will be posted near the bathing areas during the Kumbh months. NMC today runs five hospitals and 30 urban primary health centres, TOI says, so this is a large short-term boost. Exact posting locations have not been announced.
