Maharashtra Govt Approves Rs 25,055 Crore for 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela
The Maharashtra government has sanctioned a massive Rs 25,055 crore development plan for the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela, with 15-20 crore devotees expected to attend the sacred gathering.
In a landmark decision, the Maharashtra government has approved an unprecedented Rs 25,055 crore budget for the Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, making it the most heavily funded religious gathering in India's history. This massive financial commitment reflects the scale and ambition of the upcoming Kumbh, which is expected to host between 15 and 20 crore devotees over its 21-month duration.
The budget allocation covers a wide spectrum of development activities. A significant portion - approximately Rs 8,000 crore - has been earmarked for the construction of a 91-kilometer ring road around Nashik city to ease traffic congestion. Another Rs 2,270 crore will be spent on upgrading 289 kilometers of roads connecting key pilgrimage sites. Additional funds are directed toward water supply augmentation, sewage treatment, and the construction of temporary and permanent sanitation facilities along the Godavari riverbanks.
The plan also includes substantial investments in healthcare infrastructure, with mobile hospitals, emergency trauma centers, and Ayush wellness camps planned at strategic locations. Digital infrastructure is another priority, with free Wi-Fi zones, a dedicated Kumbh mobile application, and real-time crowd monitoring dashboards being developed to enhance the pilgrim experience.
Officials have emphasized that every rupee will be subject to strict auditing and time-bound completion targets. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has personally reviewed the progress of key projects and has directed departments to treat the Kumbh preparations as a mission-mode initiative, ensuring that Nashik emerges as a world-class pilgrimage destination.
