Nashik Ring Road: Work Begins on Seven Stretches, About 30% of Land Acquired

By The Nashik Kumbh DeskOriginally announced on

The 66.15 km outer ring road around Nashik will cost ₹7,922 crore. MSIDC has appointed 7 contractors and work has started wherever land is available. About 30% of the land is in hand, and the target is to finish before the Kumbh.

Work has started on Nashik's outer ring road, one of the biggest road projects planned ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh. NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh and an MSIDC official gave the details on record to the Times of India on 17 September 2026.

The ring road will be 66.15 km long. The total cost is ₹7,922 crore. Of this, ₹3,659 crore is for land, about 386 hectares across 25 villages, and ₹4,262 crore is for construction.

Where the work stands

  • MSIDC has appointed 7 contractors.
  • Work has started on all stretches where land is already in hand.
  • About 30% of the land has been acquired. On 17 September, officials said another 20% was expected within 10 days.
  • NTKMA is releasing about ₹550 crore to the district collectorate.
  • The target is to finish the road before the Kumbh.

Lokmat Times has reported that 96 hectares were bought directly from landowners.

An older post on this site gave different figures for this project (91 km, 70% of land acquired, an October 2026 deadline). Those figures are out of date. The numbers above are the current ones given by officials.

The March 2027 deadline

More than 350 infrastructure works are under way for the Kumbh. All major works are targeted for March 2027. Singh repeated this on 2 September and 17 September 2026. Kumbh Mela Minister Girish Mahajan had set the same March 2027 deadline at the NTKMA meeting of 19 July 2026, according to the Free Press Journal.

Other key roads

Dwarka to Datta Mandir (Nashik to Pune highway). This 6.4 km stretch costs ₹221 crore. Singh said on record that it may miss the March 2027 deadline, but should be done before the Kumbh. Singh also told Lokmat Times on 2 September 2026 that the Dwarka underpass should open fully by the end of January 2027, and the Dwarka flyover between December and January.

Nashik to Trimbak road. Navbharat Live reported in December 2025 that a 20 km six-lane concrete road is planned, with a budget of ₹350 crore. According to that report, PWD has issued the start order and aims to finish before 31 March 2027. The same report said the separate walking path for dindis (pilgrim groups on foot) has been put off because of land acquisition. This is a media report; we have not seen an official update since.

What this means for pilgrims

Most of these roads are meant to be ready months before the main bathing days. The first Amrit Snan is on 2 August 2027. See all dates on our Kumbh dates page.

Even with new roads, private vehicles will not reach the ghats on Amrit Snan days. Under the NTKMA transport plan, private vehicles will stop at 46 outer parking hubs, and MSRTC shuttle buses will run from there. The detailed road-closure and traffic orders have not been published yet.
