Godavari Will Flow at Ramkund for the Flag Hoisting, but Not for It: Gangapur Releases 25 MCFT for Eklahare, NMC Gets 6,973 MCFT Instead of 8,005
The district water reservation committee, chaired by guardian minister Girish Mahajan, has reserved 6,973 MCFT (about 6.9 TMC) for the Nashik Municipal Corporation, against its demand of about 8 TMC, the Times of India reports. The 635 MCFT for drinking water at Sadhugram is included. No water will be released for the flag hoisting itself, but a 25 MCFT release from Gangapur dam for the Eklahare thermal station and nearby villages began at midnight on 29 October and passes through Ramkund, so the river should be flowing on 31 October, Sakal says.

The question of whether Ramkund would be dry for the President's visit now has an answer. REPORTED: this is from the Times of India and Sakal (29 October), quoting guardian minister Girish Mahajan. We have not seen the committee's written decision.
This is a follow-up to two earlier stories: no dam water for the Dhwajarohan (20 October) and NMC seeks 8,005 MCFT for Kumbh 2027 (15 October).
Water at Ramkund on 31 October
- Release: 25 MCFT from Gangapur dam for the Eklahare thermal power station, nearby villages and the Nandur Madhmeshwar bird sanctuary (Sakal).
- When: from midnight on Thursday 29 October, at 300 cusecs (Sakal).
- Why it matters: this water passes through Ramkund on its way to Nashik Road and Eklahare (Times of India), so Sakal expects the Godavari to be flowing on the day of the flag hoisting. Ramtirth and Gandhi Talav had been emptied for the works.
- Not for the ceremony: Mahajan said the government has no policy of releasing water for religious events and that the release should not be linked to the Kumbh.
City quota for the Kumbh year
- Reserved for NMC: 6,973 MCFT (about 6.9 TMC), against a demand of about 8 TMC (8,005 MCFT in the NMC proposal). The extra demand was rejected because of drought in the district (Times of India).
- Sadhugram: the 635 MCFT for drinking water at Sadhugram is included in the reservation.
- Water cut: the Times of India quotes Mahajan suggesting that NMC cut drinking water supply by one day a week. Sakal quotes him saying no water cut has been imposed in Nashik city for now and asking people to use water carefully. Both can be true: a cut has been suggested, not ordered.
Plan for the day itself on the Dhwajarohan 2026 hub.
