Trimbakeshwar Temple Will Stay Open on 31 October, With Darshan for 3,000 Pass Holders; Kushavarta Works Due by 25 October

Trimbakeshwar temple will stay open on 31 October, the day of the Simhastha flag hoisting, but only 3,000 pass holders will be let in for darshan because of the President's expected visit, Collector Ayush Prasad told Sakal on 21 October. That ends talk of a 30–31 October closure. The administration has also told agencies to finish 32 works around Kushavarta by Sunday 25 October, working nights if needed.

Devotees who want darshan at Trimbakeshwar on the day of the flag hoisting now have an answer. Trimbakeshwar temple will stay open on Saturday 31 October 2026, Sakal reported on the night of 21 October, quoting District Collector Ayush Prasad. Because of the expected visit of President Droupadi Murmu and other VIPs, only 3,000 pass holders will be allowed in for darshan that day. This is reported, citing the Collector. We have not seen a written order or a notice from the temple trust yet.

This updates our earlier posts: priests and trust oppose a two-month closure (17 October) and temple closure still undecided (16 October).

What the Collector said, as reported

  • There was talk that the temple would be shut on 30 and 31 October for security. Sakal says the Collector has put an end to that talk: the temple stays open.
  • Darshan will be limited to 3,000 pass holders to avoid crowding while the President is in the temple area.
  • Some passes are reserved for tribal communities, as part of the plan to involve them in the ceremony.
  • Sakal also reports that the President is to visit Trimbakeshwar and perform puja at the Trimbakraj temple and of the Simhastha flag. Rashtrapati Bhavan has not published her programme, so treat this as reported.

How to get a pass has not been announced. No issuing office, website or date has been published. We will add it here as soon as it is.

Sources differ on timing

On the morning of 21 October, Pudhari reported that the administration would "soon" decide whether to close the temple to devotees on 30 and 31 October for security and crowd reasons. Sakal's report later the same day says the decision is that the temple stays open. We are going with the later report, but until the temple trust or the district publishes a notice, check before you travel.

The older proposal to close the temple from 15 October to 15 December for works was never ordered, as far as we can find.

Kushavarta: 32 works due by 25 October

At a review meeting at the Trimbak Nagar Parishad office on Tuesday 20 October, the Collector told agencies to finish the works around Kushavarta Tirth by 25 October, according to Pudhari, Prahaar and Sakal:

  • The works are split into four parts, each with its own action plan. Concrete, fabrication, welding, painting and sandblasting come first.
  • Work is to continue at night where needed, with hydra cranes, welders and technicians on hand and eight-hour shifts.
  • Finished works are to be handed to the Public Works Department in stages. Pumps and dewatering at Kushavarta must be working.
  • Sakal counts 32 works, including beautification, the roads leading to Kushavarta, seating and cleaning, all due by Sunday 25 October.
  • The helipad and air traffic control arrangements, entry passes and seating are being planned for the VIP visit. Potholes on main roads are to be filled, alternative routes fixed and mechanised cleaning done (Pudhari).

Navbharat reports that NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh inspected Kushavarta and the proposed helipad site, and the Collector asked departments for day-wise plans and daily progress reports.

This tightens the timeline in our 21 October post on Kushavarta works, which only said "before 31 October".

What this means for you

  • Darshan on 31 October is possible, but only with a pass, and there will be 3,000 of them. If you don't have one, plan to visit Trimbakeshwar on another day.
  • Expect tight security and road changes in Trimbak on 30–31 October. Routes have not been published yet.
