Tent Cities and Helicopter Service Planned for Jyotirlinga Circuit

Luxurious tent cities and helicopter darshan services are being planned for the Jyotirlinga circuit during Kumbh 2027, with a 250+ acre Sadhugram to house saints and their followers.

In a bid to elevate the pilgrim experience at the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027, authorities have announced plans for luxurious tent cities and a helicopter darshan service covering the Jyotirlinga circuit in the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar region. The tent city concept, inspired by the successful model at the Rann of Kutch festival, will offer pilgrims a range of accommodation options from basic tented shelters to premium glamping experiences with attached bathrooms, air conditioning, and traditional Maharashtrian decor.

The flagship accommodation project is the Sadhugram - a sprawling 250-plus-acre campus that will serve as the residential hub for thousands of saints, sadhus, and their followers during the Kumbh. Located strategically between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, the Sadhugram will feature designated zones for each of the 13 Akhadas, complete with their own temples, kitchens (langars), meditation halls, and discourse pavilions. The layout has been designed in consultation with Akhada leaders to respect traditional hierarchies and protocols.

The helicopter Jyotirlinga darshan service is perhaps the most exciting addition to the 2027 Kumbh. Pilgrims will be able to book helicopter rides that connect Trimbakeshwar's Jyotirlinga with other sacred sites in the region, offering an aerial view of the magnificent Sahyadri mountains and the Godavari valley. The service will operate from three helipads - at Trimbakeshwar, Nashik city, and Sadhugram - and is expected to serve both pilgrims seeking a premium experience and emergency medical needs.

Additional tent cities are planned at Tapovan, Ramkund, and along the Godavari at Anandvalli, with a combined capacity of over 50,000 pilgrims per night. Each tent city will be self-contained with medical facilities, food courts offering sattvic cuisine, cultural performance stages, and spiritual discourse tents. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will operate the premium tent cities, while basic shelters will be provided free of cost to ensure that accommodation is accessible to all devotees regardless of their financial means.
