Railways Begin Preparations for Nashik Simhastha 2027
Indian Railways has begun large-scale preparations for Simhastha 2027, including station upgrades, special trains, 4,500 buses, and 8-10 helipads for emergency services.
Indian Railways has launched comprehensive preparations to handle the massive influx of pilgrims expected during the Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. The Central Railway zone, which administers the Nashik Road station, has drawn up an ambitious plan that includes complete renovation of the Nashik Road railway station, expansion of platform capacity, and the introduction of over 200 special trains connecting Nashik to major cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Ahmedabad.
The Nashik Road station will undergo a transformative makeover with new waiting halls capable of accommodating 10,000 passengers simultaneously, upgraded ticketing counters with digital payment systems, and enhanced drinking water and sanitation facilities. A new temporary platform is being constructed to handle the surge in train arrivals during peak Shahi Snan periods. The nearby Devlali and Manmad junctions will also receive upgrades to serve as overflow stations.
Beyond rail, the integrated mobility plan includes a fleet of 4,500 buses - comprising state transport, private, and specially requisitioned vehicles - to ferry pilgrims from railway stations to Kumbh sites. Eight to ten helipads are being constructed at strategic locations for emergency medical evacuation, VIP movement, and aerial surveillance. A dedicated helipad near Trimbakeshwar will also support the planned helicopter Jyotirlinga darshan service.
Railway officials have also coordinated with the state government to establish temporary tent accommodations near the Nashik Road station for pilgrims arriving late at night or during peak rush. Free cloak rooms, mobile charging stations, and multilingual help desks staffed by trained volunteers will ensure that every pilgrim's journey begins and ends with comfort and dignity.
