NTKMA Approves Major Phase 2 Infrastructure at Trimbakeshwar
The NTKMA has approved Phase 2 infrastructure at Trimbakeshwar worth Rs 390 crore, including the Darshan Path, renovated ghats, and improved pilgrim amenities near the Jyotirlinga temple.
The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has given the green light to an ambitious Phase 2 infrastructure development plan at Trimbakeshwar worth Rs 390 crore. Trimbakeshwar, home to one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and the origin point of the Godavari River, is the spiritual heart of the Nashik Kumbh Mela and will host some of the most significant rituals during the 2027 festival.
The centerpiece of the Phase 2 plan is the construction of a dedicated Darshan Path - a wide, covered walkway that will allow pilgrims to approach the Trimbakeshwar temple in a systematic and safe manner. Currently, the narrow lanes around the temple become dangerously overcrowded during peak periods. The new Darshan Path will incorporate queue management systems, shaded rest areas, drinking water fountains, and accessibility ramps for elderly and differently-abled devotees.
The development also includes the complete renovation of bathing ghats along the Godavari near Trimbakeshwar, with stepped terraces, anti-slip surfaces, and safety railings. New changing rooms, locker facilities, and clean washrooms will be constructed at each ghat. A scenic promenade along the riverfront will connect the ghats to the temple complex, lined with heritage-style lighting and landscaped gardens.
Traimbakeshwar's Phase 2 plan also addresses long-standing civic issues including a new sewage treatment plant to ensure zero untreated discharge into the Godavari, underground electrical cabling to eliminate visual clutter, and a modern drainage system to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon - crucial since the Kumbh's Shahi Snan dates fall within the rainy season. The entire project is expected to be completed by July 2026.
