A new site has been chosen for the Trimbakeshwar sub-district hospital, according to a Loksatta report on 7 October. A reserved plot opposite the police station has been approved for a multi-storey hospital with 100 beds.
This is a media report. It is not yet officially confirmed.
Why a new site
The old hospital building is to make way for the Kumbh Darshan Path. For now, the hospital is running with 50 beds at Tupadevi Phata, about 4 km out of town.
A committee of the Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) looked at three possible sites. Collector Ayush Prasad then approved the plot opposite the police station.
Concerns about the plot
Loksatta points out some problems with the chosen plot:
- the plot is small
- it is near a hill
- there is a risk of landslides
When will the old building go?
This is unclear. On 22 August, Health Minister Abitkar said the demolition of the old hospital was stayed, the Times of India reported then. No date for demolition has been given.
What this means for pilgrims
- Know where the hospital is now. If you need the sub-district hospital in Trimbakeshwar, it is running at Tupadevi Phata, about 4 km out of town.
- The new hospital is still a plan. Only the site has been approved so far.
Trimbakeshwar's Amrit Snans are on 2 August, 31 August and 12 September 2027.
