CM Fadnavis Sets Strict Deadlines for Kumbh Infrastructure

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has set strict deadlines for Kumbh infrastructure projects, including AI-powered crowd monitoring and Rs 4,000 crore worth of technology-driven initiatives.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken direct charge of the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 preparations, setting strict and non-negotiable deadlines for all infrastructure projects. In a high-level review meeting attended by senior bureaucrats and project heads, the CM made it clear that any delays would not be tolerated, and that department heads would be held personally accountable for meeting the October 2026 flag hoisting deadline.

A key highlight of the CM's vision is the deployment of AI-powered crowd monitoring technology across all major Kumbh venues. Over 5,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras will be installed at ghats, roads, and congregation points, feeding real-time data into a central command center. These systems will use machine learning algorithms to predict crowd density, detect stampede risks, and trigger automated alerts to security personnel - a first for any Kumbh Mela in history.

The technology portfolio, estimated at Rs 4,000 crore, also includes drone surveillance, facial recognition for missing person identification, IoT-based water quality sensors in the Godavari, and a multi-language AI chatbot for pilgrim assistance. The entire Kumbh zone will have 5G connectivity, enabling seamless digital services for devotees including live darshan streaming and digital navigation maps.

Fadnavis has also directed the creation of a dedicated Kumbh War Room that will operate 24/7 during the festival period, integrating feeds from all departments - police, fire, health, transport, and municipal services. This centralized approach aims to ensure real-time decision-making and rapid response to any emergencies, setting a new benchmark for managing large-scale religious gatherings.
