Banks in Nashik are getting ready for the Simhastha Kumbh. The district has asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at Belapur to raise Nashik's cash limit of ₹6,000 crore. Mobile ATM vans are also planned at parking grounds, Sadhugram and the main ghats.
This was confirmed by Collector Ayush Prasad, as reported by the Times of India on 6 October.
What was decided
The State Level Bankers' Committee reviewed the banking needs for the Kumbh. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal.
- The district has asked RBI (Belapur) to raise the ₹6,000 crore cash limit for Nashik.
- RBI will meet all banks on Friday, 9 October to finalise the plans.
- That meeting will cover cash, ATMs, mobile ATMs, cash chests and digital payments.
Mobile ATMs and card machines
- Mobile ATM vans are planned at parking grounds, at Sadhugram and at the main ghats.
- POS terminals, the machines used for card payments, are planned for small vendors.
The new cash limit has not been fixed yet. The RBI meeting on 9 October is meant to finalise these details.
What this means for pilgrims
- Cash near the ghats: if the plan goes ahead, you should find mobile ATM vans at parking grounds, at Sadhugram and at the main ghats.
- Card payments: small vendors are planned to get POS terminals, so paying by card may be possible at more stalls.
- These are still plans. The exact spots and the number of ATM vans are not yet known.
