Ashrams, temples, maths and other religious institutions that host pilgrims during the Simhastha are a step closer to getting new facilities. Pudhari and the Free Press Journal reported on 20 October 2026 that a committee chaired by District Collector Ayush Prasad has finished scrutinising proposals from 63 religious institutions and forwarded them to the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) for approval. This is reported, citing the district administration. No list of institutions or amounts has been published.
Where the 63 proposals come from
- Trimbakeshwar: 48
- Sinnar: 5
- Dindori: 4
- Igatpuri: 3
- Nashik: 2
- Niphad: 1
What the institutions have asked for
Funding for permanent structures, toilets, bathing areas, drinking water, sewage management, internal roads, protective walls and accommodation for devotees, according to the reports.
What happens next
- NTKMA has to approve the proposals and allocate funds. Work can begin only after that, Pudhari notes. No approval date has been announced.
- The scheme was opened on 12 August 2026 through a district information office release. It covers institutions other than the 3 main akhadas in Nashik and the 10 in Trimbakeshwar. Proposals were due by 15 September 2026.
- The rules in that release: the land must be owned by the trust, ashram or institution and must not be under any court dispute. NTKMA gives administrative approval, and an implementing agency then tenders and builds the works.
What we can't confirm yet
- Earlier reports said eligible institutions could get facilities worth up to ₹15 lakh each, and that 84 institutions had registered online in the first phase. The 20 October reports don't say how the 63 relate to those 84. An earlier Pudhari report said proposals from Nashik city and from outside the district would go to the authority directly, without local verification, so the 63 may not be the full list.
- We will update this once NTKMA publishes approvals.
Why it matters for pilgrims
Many devotees, especially at Trimbakeshwar, stay in ashrams and dharmashalas rather than hotels. Better toilets, water and rooms there would ease pressure on the town during the Amrit Snan days. For stay options now, see Accommodation and Private tent city rules.
